The Marlboro man made a lot of money out of tobacco, but he died an early and gruesome death.

Tobacco companies make a lot of money, but they just get healthier. On they roll... moving into emerging countries, sucking up the impressionable population and spitting them out dead, dying and poorer.

The more aggressive tobacco companies are, the more Wall Street fund managers aggressively push their stocks. And the more universities, governments, and councils hypocritically accept tobacco sponsorship money and invest in their stocks.

Over the 12 months to the end of April 2007, the Dow Jones US Tobacco Index rose almost 26 percent, with Loews Corp's Carolina Group up 49 percent, Altria Group Inc. up 25 percent, and BAT up 22 percent. There's no other industry in the world like it - are you feeding these fat cats?

One might think, now I that have cancer, what's the point of quitting smoking?
A study from 1986 to 2007 linked quitting smoking as the single most powerful measure throat cancer victims could do to survive.

The International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France, followed nearly 1000 patients, and found that those who quit smoking had the best chance of recovery.

Ditching alcohol came next in importance, plus a diet high in vegetables and plenty of vitamin C.

The researcher's message? Even for people with cancer of the larynx or lower pharynx, it's not too late to quit. Better still, stop the risk now Quit for Good Stop Smoking program
